Mein heutiges Ziel war das "Umbrella Centre". Ich hatte keine Ahnung was genau mich hier erwartet. Ich hatte nach einem Handcraft Centre gefragt und mir wurde dieses vorgeschlagen. Mit einem Grab-Bike-Taxi fuhr ich weit aus der Stadt raus. Die Fahrt führte mich vorbei an noch ungesehenen Stadtbereichen: an Shopping Malls, Baumgärten, Silk Factory's, am Fluss,...
Im Umbrella Centre angekommen wurde ich positiv überrascht. Man kann hier wirklich zuschauen, wie die typisch asiatischen Schirme von Grund auf produziert werden. Die Menschen die hier arbeiten empfangen einem mit strahlenden Gesichtern und lassen einem eintauchen in die Kunst der Schirme. Davon fasziniert entschied ich selber einen zu machen. Ich hatte richtig Lust darauf, wieder Mal kreativ und handwerklich tätig zu sein. Beim Bemalen des Schirmes liess ich mir Zeit und merkte, wie sehr ich das kreativ sein vermisse. Das muss ich in Zukunft unbedingt wieder vermehrt in meinen Alltag integrieren.
Nach Stunden verabschiedete ich mich von den lieben Menschen hier und spazierte zur Silkfaktory.... ja, ich spazierte 1.5 km durch die Stadt. Für Asiaten etwas sehr ungewöhnliches. Und dieses Mal sogar ohne Schirm;-)!
Der Weg zur "Silkfaktory Shinawatra" führte mich vorbei an einem Museum mit einem Kaffee. Ich war schon fast vorbeigelaufen, als mich irgendetwas in dieses Kaffee zog. Und da fand ich mich in einer Fantasywelt aus Papier wieder. Auch wenn ein wenig kitschig... doch eindrücklich! Die Auswahl an Kuchen und Törtchen ist kunstvoll gestaltet. Sogar die Zuckerspender passen ins Konzept. Hier im "Kaffe-Kradas" trank ich etwas und saugte die künstlerathmospähre in mich auf.
Next Stop: Silkfaktory. Hier spürte ich deutlich, dass es "out of season" ist. Ich war komplett alleine und nach einem Bael-Fruit-Willkommensdrink wurde mir die Herstellung von Seide erklärt. Gratis... natürlich wurde dann gehofft, dass ich am Ende etwas kaufe. Ich erfüllte ihnen den Wunsch:-).
Nun war ich da im Nowhere ohne Internetempfang und hätte eine Taxibestellung via App bestellen sollen. Hmh... was nun? Doch da ich ganz am Anfang nach Wifi gefragt habe, machte sich plötzlich die ganze Belegschaft mobil und suchte nach der Chefin um mir den Code des Wifi zu geben.
Das ist für mich so typisch für Chiang Mai. Die Menschen sind extrem hilfsbereit und teilweise ohne dass man danach fragt.
Zum Abschluss des Tages stand noch ein Besuch in der Shopping Mall "Central festival" an.
Danach war ich pleite;-).
My goal today was the "Umbrella Center". I had no idea what exactly awaited me here. I had asked for a handcraft center and this was suggested to me. With a grab bike taxi I drove far out of the city. The ride took me past unseen urban areas: shopping malls, tree gardens, Silk Factory's, riverside, ...
Arrived at the Umbrella Center, I was pleasantly surprised. You can really watch how the typical asian umbrellas are made from the ground up. The people who work here receive you with bright faces and immerse yourself in the art of the umbrellas. Intrigued, I decided to make one myself. I was looking forward to be creative and do handicrafts again. When painting the screen, I took my time and realized how much I miss it being creative. In the future, I definitely have to integrate this increasingly into my everyday life again.
After hours, I said goodbye to the dear people here and walked to the Silk Factory .... yes, I walked 1.5 km through the hot city. Something very unusual for Asians. And this time even without a screen ;-)!
The way to the "Silkfaktory Shinawatra" led me past a museum with a coffee. I almost ran by when something drew me into this coffee. And then I found myself in a fantasy world of paper again. Even if a bit cheesy ... but impressive! The selection of cakes and tarts is artfully designed. Even the sugar dispensers fit into the concept. Here in the "Kaffe-Kradas" I drank something and sucked the arty atmosphere in me.
Next Stop: Silk Factory. Here I clearly felt that it is "out of season". I was completely alone and after a Bael Fruit welcome drink I was told the production of silk. Free ... Of course it was then hoped that I will buy something in the end. I fulfilled their wish :-).
Now I was there in Nowhere without internet reception and should have ordered a taxi via App. Hmh ... what now? But since I asked for Wifi at the very beginning, suddenly the entire workforce got mobile and searched for the boss to give me the code of the Wifi. This is so typical of Chiang Mai for me. The people are extremely helpful and sometimes without you ask.
At the end of the day, there was a visit to the shopping mall "Central festival". After that I was broke ;-).
